Northern Territory
The gaming industry in the Northern Territory is managed by Licensing NT. They do not have a dedicated website but some information about them is provided on the main Northern Territory Government website. Click here for contact information for Licensing NT.
Licensing NT regulates and oversees lotteries, bookmaking, casinos, gaming machines, greyhound racing and some online gaming and wagering. Companies, their employees and individulas involved in these activities are all required to have licences.
Currently, the Northern Territory (NT) has two licensed land casinos: Skycity in Darwin and Lasseters Hotel Casino in Alice Springs.
Licensing NT also oversees the licensing of electronic gaming machines (pokies). There are detailed guidelines, rules and regulations regarding applications, approved equipment suppliers, levies/fees and the community impact analysis.
The Northern Territory Government website mentions the offer of licences for an “internet gaming business” that conducts lottery or “game” activities online. “Game” activity is not defined. Licence applications are by written submission only.
Horse racing in the NT is overseen by the Thoroughbred Racing Northern Territory (TRNT) . This includes applications, permits and registrations for trainers and jockeys as well as medical forms. Northern Territory Racing Commission is in charge of regulation but does not have an official website. Their contact information is available at the bottom of a NT government website page.
The Northern Territory has two codes of practice for responsible gambling, one for general and one for online.
Self-exclusion is available from licensed venues as well as from sports bookmakers and betting exchange operators.
